The Rajasthan Government has announced a 4% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners, effective from January 1, 2023. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting held on March 14, 2023. The new DA rate will be 34% of the basic pay/pension, up from the previous rate of 30%. The hike is expected to benefit around 8.5 lakh government employees and 3.5 lakh pensioners in the state. The move is aimed at providing relief to employees and pensioners from the rising cost of living and inflation.
Rajasthan Government Increases DA by 4%
The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, has approved a 4% increase in the dearness allowance for state employees and pensioners, following a similar increase for central employees. This decision has brought relief to government employees on Saturday, as both the central and state governments have taken steps to alleviate the impact of inflation on their employees by increasing the dearness allowance.
On Saturday, the government of Rajasthan declared a raise of 4% in the dearness allowance granted to the state employees and retirees. As of January 1, 2023, they will now receive a 42% DA, which is a rise from the previous rate of 38% DA, as reported by the news agency PTI.
According to an official statement, around 800,000 state employees and 440,000 pensioners will be positively impacted by the decision. This benefit will extend to work-charged, Panchayat Samiti, and Zila Parishad employees in addition to state employees. The state government will incur an annual cost of approximately Rs 1,640 crore due to this hike.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot pointed out that the central governments’ DA announcement is typically implemented after a prolonged delay, but the Rajasthan government is committed to promptly paying the increased amount in addition to making the announcement.
